One of the key features of Notion Docs is it’s Dynamic Navigation.
Navigation consists of two parts:
This is where all your Documentation Pages or Knowledge Base articles are located. Navigation is inside Notion’s sync block so from wherever you change it it will be reflected to all other pages.
You can add new navigation item simply by typing @
and then searching for a particular page.
After new page is added to Navigation it will be present to all other pages.
Besides Main Navigation that has all your published Documentation Pages and Knowledge Base Articles. Every page has additional Page navigation that is automatically updated based on your headings.
To add heading to your Page type /heading
in your notion and then choose between 3 Heading options.
Headings 1, 2 and 3 all have different sizes
But that’s not the only differentiation between them. If you look at your Page Navigation you will see that headings are used as clickable outline of your page.
That way, by managing your Page Headings you can manage your Page Navigation based on a topics and subtopics you write about.
More about optimizing your Documentation process can be found in Dashboard page but for now it’s important to mention just one thing.
It is suggested for you to share only your Pages to your users and not the whole Notion Docs Dashboard.
That way you can decide when a Page you wrote is ready for publishing. So you can publish your newly created Page by simply adding it to the Main Navigation and whoa, now your users have access to your newly created page 🥳🎈
